The National Federation of High Schools over-reaching media branch, formerly Play-On Sports, is targeting non-NFHS affiliated media companies in Oregon, while the OSAA is standing by doing little to stop them.

In the first round of last year’s football playoffs; NFHS claimed the rights to 2 first round games that were not part of their student broadcast programs, assembling freelance crews to displace 3 broadcast coverage teams that all year long covered 3 of the 4 football teams involved. Announcing crews familiar with the teams were replaced by totally unfamiliar broadcasters. Meanwhile, over 40 other football games taking place on that same evening had no live video coverage of their games. This move to displace existing, local media companies is an obvious and blatant attempt by NFHS to further it’s mission of gaining monopolistic media power over high school sports in the state of Oregon.
